The Rapid City YMCA has an ever-increasing membership and was out of space. Separate additions on each end of the facility added 57,500 square feet of space that more than doubled the size of the facility. The new building additions extend to the public right away on three sides and are also bounded by the existing building on the fourth side. This left only the parking spaces in the right of way to stage materials making construction coordination and material delivery paramount. The work also included adding a new elevator in the center core of the building that required hand excavation and manual transfer of all construction materials to the shaft location. Spaces added were for an exercise room, day care facility, new gymnasium, a zero-depth entry pool with play features and a new lap pool.
