Central High School is the largest high school in South Dakota and needed additional classroom space. The existing Vo-tech area had a very high ceiling which allowed for a new second floor to be constructed within the existing building. Compaction grouted piers were installed to support new columns and new steel and concrete floor structure. This created the new second floor area for the Math department. The Core Area within the school was repurposed to expand classroom and teacher spaces for other disciplines including: Social Studies, Art, Home Economics, Special Education, Science, Language, and Foreign Language. Work included extensive interior remodeling, revised mechanical and fire protection, and new electrical. All work on this project was completed on a fast-track schedule during the school’s summer break.
