This timber trail is just over a half mile in length that takes visitors at Mount Rushmore up close for a better view of one of America’s greatest monuments. The Presidential Trail was built on an archaeologically significant site, and construction had to be carried out with no impact on the surrounding environmental areas. The only access to the leading edge of the project was to traverse the already constructed path with needed tools, materials, and equipment. The route of the trail was modified during construction to create closer interaction with natural features at the Memorial.
